CBI enquiry into official's death sought

Tuticorin: Cadres of the opposition parties led by AIADMK staged demonstration here on Monday in front of the Rajaji Park insisting upon the government to conduct a CBI enquiry into the death of M. Murugan, Assistant Quality Control Officer, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, Tuticorin.

Murugan died on September 11 in Tuticorin after he reportedly consumed poison on September 7.

Presiding over the agitation, P.H. Pandian, the former Assembly Speaker, termed the official's death as “murder.”

Strong indication

There was a strong indication of the fact that he was attacked by some conspirators since he had suffered injuries on his body.

K. Krishnasamy, Founder President, Puthiya Thamilagam said the government should recommend for a CBI inquiry into the incident and take appropriate action against those involved in Murugan's death, which he claimed to be a murder.

Shanmuganathan, district secretary, AIADMK, N. Chinnadurai, District Panchayat Chairman, Nazareth Durai, Deputy General Secretary, MDMK, S. Joel, district secretary, MDMK, S. Hyder Ali, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and cadres from various parties also participated in the agitation organised by the AIADMK.
