Wife on fast to nab hubby killers

The wife of a civil supplies quality control officer alleged to have been poisoned to death, sat on an indefinite fast along with relatives and friends in heavy downpour on Monday, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for his death.
Murugan’s wife Selvi alleged that her husband, the quality control officer of the civil supplies godown at Meelavittan, Thoothukudi, whose death was registered by the police as suicide on Sept. 7, was poisoned by his colleagues.
Refusing to receive the body after post-mortem, she alleged that Murugan was forced to consume poison by four of his colleagues Isaack, Ramesh, Ayyapillai and godown manager Chidambaram because he lodged a complaint with the Thoothukudi SIPCOT police against them for malpractice.
“When I saw his body at the Thoothukudi medical college hospital, there were injuries on his neck and right shoulder and his tongue was also injured: he probably bit it while being beaten up,” Ms Selvi told Deccan Chronicle.
She said her husband told her that the four had been torturing him at work since he made the police complaint.
Ms Selvi, who petitioned Thoothukudi collector G.Prakash Monday, however, turned down his offer for a job in the civil supplies department and launched her fast in front of the collectorate. Human rights and dalit organisations have assured support to Ms Selvi, who is a dalit.
The officials refused comment, saying it was a suicide as per the post-mortem report. The collector, however, added that a detailed enquiry would be conducted by higher officials from Chennai.

Official's death raises suspicion
Tuticorin: M. Murugan (48), an Assistant Quality Control Officer of Civil Supplies Godown under the SIPCOT police limits here, died on Saturday.
According to police, he took poison on September 7 at the workplace and he was taken to the Government Hospital here. He was a resident of Anna Nagar.
His family members and relatives objected to the alleged long time taken for conducting the post-mortem at the GH on Saturday.
Selvi, wife of the deceased, alleged that his husband might have been murdered by some in the department for “exposing irregularities.”
She also alleged injuries on some parts of the body.
A large number of residents and relatives of the deceased thronged the hospital. Demanding a proper inquiry into the death, they refused to take the body.
A team of police personnel, led by Sonal Chandra, Assistant Superintendent of Police, and Jayakumar, DSP, pacified them.

Wife holds protest over official’s death

Madurai: The wife of a quality control officer in the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, who died allegedly due to consumption of poison, is on a protest for three days in Thoothukudi, claiming that he had been force-fed poison and demanding that the culprits be arrested.
Selvi, 37, wife of M Murugan, 48, suspects that her husband might have been forced to swallow poison by those involved in alleged misappropriation of goods, as he had given a complaint against the fraud to the police on August 17.
Murugan was deputy inspector of quality control at a civil supplies godown in Thoothukudi. He had complained both to his superior and the police regarding the conduct of some civil supplies employees. On the morning of September 7, his family was informed that Murugan had consumed poison in office and that he was unconscious. He was rushed to the government hospital, where he died on September 11. Police sources said the postmortem had confirmed that it was a case of suicide.
Selvi and her relatives complained to the police that they suspected foulplay in his death and that he might have been attacked by some persons on the instigation of higher officials of the department and later forced to consume poison. They refused to accept the body until the case was registered under section 302 of IPC. At present, a case of suspicious death has been registered under section 174 of IPC.
The relatives, who staged a protest throughout the night of September 11 in front of the Thoothukudi medical college, where Murugan’s body has been kept after post mortem examination, continued the protest throughout Sunday and on Monday morning staged a protest in front of the collector’s office in Thoothukudi. CPI leader R Nallakannu met Selvi on Monday.
Thoothukudi collector G Prakash held talks with Selvi, who continued her protest in heavy rain, said steps would be taken to get her a government job.

தூத்துக்குடி அண்ணாநகர் 10-வது தெருவைச் சேர்ந்த முத்தையா மகன் முருகன் (48). இவரது சொந்த கிராமம் விளாத்திகுளம் அருகே வேடப்பட்டி ஆகும். இவர், தூத்துக்குடி சிப்காட் வளாகத்தில் உள்ள குடிமைப்பொருள் வழங்கல் துறை கிட்டங்கியில் தரக்கட்டுப்பாட்டு பிரிவு உதவி ஆய்வாளராக பணியாற்றி வந்தார். கடந்த 7-ம் தேதி காலை முருகன் வழக்கம்போல் வீட்டில் இருந்து வேலைக்கு புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றாராம். இந்நிலையில் அன்று மாலை 3 மணியளவில் அவர் விஷம் குடித்துவிட்டதாக அலுவலகத்தில் இருந்து குடும்பத்தினருக்கு தகவல் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டதாம். தூத்துக்குடி அரசு மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட அவர் சனிக்கிழமை இறந்தார். இந்நிலையில் அவரது சாவில் சந்தேகம் இருப்பதாக அவரது மனைவி செல்வி அளித்த புகாரில் அலுவலகத்தில் நடைபெற்ற முறைகேடுகளை தனது கணவர் கண்டுபிடித்து போலீஸில் புகார் செய்ய நடவடிக்கை எடுத்ததாகவும், அதனால் அதிகாரிகள் அவருக்கு விஷம் கொடுத்து கொலை செய்துவிட்டனர் என்றும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
